Camping recommendationsThe Big Island is a camping paradise. There are a lot of good spots to camp around the island. All along the red road in puna there are numerous little hidden fishing spots. By law you can spend the night if you're fishing. Many remote beaches on the kona side offer a nice campout. Most of them are hard to reach, but that's the beauty of it. Unfortunately new developements are popping up everywhere. Kua bay was always one of my favorite untouched white sand beaches for camping. It's just been developed complete with paved road & bathrooms & security guards. Pololu valley, north of Hawi is a gorgeous valley to hike into and camp out. If you're into more strenous hiking adventures I recommend Waimanu Valley. Malama Pono - Keep the aina ono. If you need facilities you'll be better off with any of the County and State parks listed here. I recomend the following spots: McKenzie State Park Namakani Paio, Volcano Natl Park (4000') Keokea Beach Park Laupahoehoe point, about 30min north of Hilo |
